Black Eyed Black Friday
I have recently re-taken up a spot in the dreaded retail employment scene. Every year, I tell myself that this will be the last holiday I ever work in retail hell. And then I pick the perfect time to restart the adventure - two weeks before black Friday. The mall was so packed I couldn’t even get to the damn food court with my utter refusal to choke down 5 hour old sandwiches that our store...

2010 Calendars Hit A New High!
I noticed the seasonal calendar shops popping up in the centers of malls everywhere. I am usually on a mission when I brave a mall, so I don’t usually don’t give a kiosk a second look. Surfing around online, I found a few new gems hitting the ol’ calendar stands this year. I know I would love to look at this each day. Dog Yoga Anyone? Or perhaps your more of a Pop Star...

Dog-O-Ween
Dog Costumes are stupid. You know it, I know it… But I don’t think I could ever see enough of these around town: So go throw out that lame bee costume that you tote your dog around in, and have a sense of humor. Comments

The Oprah Effect
It’s no secret, Oprah controls the universe…or at least it’s women. If she says it, it’s an overnight sensation. If you have a beauty idea, take it from Carols Daughter: get Oprah hooked, get the world hooked. There is a great show called “The Oprah Effect” that runs from time to time on CNBC. It seems impossible that one person can have so much pull over so...

Luna?Vulturi?No thanks!
With the New Moon addition to the Twilight saga around the corner comes a New Breed of merchandising. Do you remember the scene in Space Balls, where Yogurt takes Barf and Captain Lone Star to the cache of Space Balls merchandise in the Desert? Nostradamus would even be proud of that prediction; the phenomenon that is decking yourself out in the latest fantasy of every young (and sometimes old)...

Coffee and Tea: Lifeblood, and Wallet Drain
If I hear “recession” one more time I am going to scream…but hey, were in a recession. HA! Recently I am finding myself having to decide which money spending habits stay, and which ones go. Before I go do a shoot, I always ALWAYS need a pick me up. I drifted away from coffee, and am sticking to my Starbucks “Venti Iced Dirty Soy Chai”. With the add in’s its...

WatchWatch
If you didn’t catch Tim Burton’s spread in Harper’s October, you missed out. You love his work, or hate it, but no one can deny that the man has his own voice and its loud. Every time I get the chance to see his work he steals my heart all over again. He will be doing an art gallery showing of some of his private works, along with pieces we know and love at MOMA in New York. ...

Taxidermy Jewelry - Vegetarian Friendly!
You read that right. Reid Peppard has released a line of Taxidermy Jewelry….one more time for dramatic effect…Taxidermy Jewelry! The dead rats and birds have all died naturally, allegedly making the pieces vegetarian friendly (Reid is a vegetarian). The idea behind the pieces is to “contradict, repulse, intrigue, engage, and enlighten”. Something tells me PETA is going to...

Painting the roses red..er...pretty.
The minute I saw this girl at a photoshoot, I absolutely had to work with her again. The context I was working with her in was far from glamorous,  and beauty is where she is really strong - clearly. Anyways, this shot took a crew of four : Makeup, Hair, Photographer, Assistant. The Look: Skin - Clinique Dramatically different moisturizing gel, Clinique Turnaround Serum Foundation -...

See Mike Draw
I find it is important to take a moment each day to laugh about…or at something. From a humor standpoint, I always enjoy something that pokes at real life situations, or things people take too serious. I especially enjoy situational comedy…particularly when the setting is something non-conventional or non-socially acceptable. See Mike Draw is a blog by comic artist Mike Jacobsen that I...

Dolce Far Niente
Hussein Chalayan 2010 ready to wear collection. The English translation for such a decadent Italian phrase means sweet doing nothing, or sweet idleness. The collection featured an off-putting new era of the pointy bra (think Madonna, circa 1980’s). But what made the collection so amazing was an adornment to the garments that look like fists holding the clothing together (look closely at...

Chiaroscuro, literally.
(kiːɑːrˈə.skʊrˈoʊ, –skjʊrˈoʊ, Italian for light-dark) is a term in art for a contrast between light and dark. The term is usually applied to bold contrasts affecting a whole composition, but is also more technically used by artists and art historians for the use of effects representing contrasts of light, not necessarily strong, to achieve a sense of volume in modeling three-dimensional objects...
